Oculux Jewelry Care

Preserve the Beauty. Honor the Craft.

At Oculux, every piece is crafted with intention β€” combining natural gemstones and 18k gold vermeil to create jewelry meant to be worn, cherished, and passed on. Proper care ensures that your jewelry maintains its brilliance, energetic presence, and structural integrity over time.

This guide explains how to protect, clean, and store your Oculux pieces based on their unique materials.

1. Understanding Your Materials

18k Gold Vermeil

Our vermeil features a thick layer of 18k gold over sterling silver, offering both durability and a refined luster. While more resistant than standard plating, vermeil still benefits from mindful care to maintain its glow.

Natural Gemstones

Each stone has its own character and sensitivity. Oculux pieces may feature:

  • Red Agate

  • Black Agate

  • Tiger’s Eye

  • Malachite

  • Freshwater Pearl

  • Mother of Pearl

  • Amethyst

These materials are natural and porous, meaning they can be affected by chemicals, abrasives, intense moisture, and prolonged sun exposure.

2. Daily Wear Guidelines

Avoid Contact with Chemicals

Keep your jewelry away from perfume, lotion, sunscreen, hairspray, cleaning agents, and alcohol-based products. These substances can dull gemstones and discolor vermeil.

Last On, First Off

Put your jewelry on after finishing skincare and makeup; remove it before cleansing, showering, working out, swimming, or sleeping.

Minimize Friction

Avoid wearing pieces during heavy activity or situations where they may rub against hard surfaces, clothing seams, or other jewelry.

3. How to Clean Your Jewelry

Cleaning 18k Gold Vermeil

  1. Prepare a small bowl of lukewarm water with a drop of mild, fragrance-free soap.

  2. Dip a soft microfiber cloth into the solution.

  3. Gently wipe the metal surface β€” do not soak vermeil in water.

  4. Rinse the cloth with clean water, wipe again, and pat dry thoroughly.

Cleaning Natural Gemstones

Gemstones vary, but the following gentle method is safe for most of the stones we use:

  1. Use a dry or slightly damp soft cloth to wipe the stone.

  2. Avoid detergents, ultrasonic cleaners, or soaking.

  3. For softer stones like malachite, pearl, and mother of pearl, use only a dry cloth β€” no moisture, no chemicals.

What to Avoid

  • Toothpaste or any abrasive cleaning product

  • Jewelry dips

  • Ultrasonic machines

  • Hot water or steam

These methods can damage both the stone surface and the vermeil layer.

4. Material-Specific Care Notes

Malachite

Malachite is particularly sensitive. Keep it away from water, acids, and prolonged heat. Clean with a dry cloth only.

Freshwater Pearls & Mother of Pearl

These organic materials are delicate and can be damaged by acids, sweat, and alcohol. Wipe gently after each wear. Never soak or use soap.

Tiger’s Eye, Black Agate, Red Agate, Amethyst

These stones are more durable but still porous. Avoid harsh chemicals and extended sun exposure (which may fade color in amethyst).

5. Storage Recommendations

Store Separately

Keep each piece in its own pouch or compartment to prevent scratches and friction.

Keep Dry

Moisture can tarnish metal and dull gemstones. Store your jewelry in a cool, dry place away from humidity.

Use Anti-Tarnish Materials

For vermeil pieces, include anti-tarnish strips or store them in a lined jewelry box for optimal longevity.

6. Long-Term Maintenance

Routine Checks

Periodically inspect clasps, gemstone settings, and chains. If you notice any loosening, discontinue wearing the piece and contact us for support.

Professional Cleaning

For deep cleaning or polishing, consult a professional jeweler who specializes in vermeil and natural gemstones.

7. Caring for the Energetic Presence of Your Gemstones

For customers who value the symbolic and energetic qualities of gemstones, we recommend occasional gentle energetic cleansing that does not involve water:

  • Place gemstones on a clean, dry surface near natural light (avoid direct harsh sun for amethyst).

  • Use a soft cloth to wipe away absorbed energy.

  • Store them intentionally when not in use.
